Eleanor Margaret Thompson
1935 – 2024
Eleanor Margaret Thompson was a beloved teacher, gardener, and grandmother who touched countless lives over her 89 years. Born in a small coastal town, she spent her youth exploring tide pools and pressing wildflowers — a love of nature that stayed with her always.
After graduating from the state university, Eleanor dedicated 35 years to teaching English literature at Lincoln High School. Her students remember her infectious enthusiasm for poetry and her famous "Friday Read-Alouds" where she'd perform Shakespeare with full theatrical flair.
In retirement, Eleanor turned her backyard into a community garden that became a neighborhood gathering place. She was known for sharing tomatoes with anyone who stopped by and for her legendary peach cobbler at the annual block party.
Eleanor is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, and a community that will always carry her warmth.

Mrs. Thompson was the reason I became a writer. Her Friday Read-Alouds changed my life. Rest in peace, dear teacher.
